Last night was just one of those nights you scratch your head and move on.
I didn't bowl as well as I did last week, but the luck wasn't with me either, and ended up with a mediocre night that was pretty disappointing after last week's 719.
Started off good, with a 216. From there it went downhill.
I wasn't rolling the ball consistently well, but still threw plenty of good shots, and was covering just about every makable spare. On the night I whiffed on a 6-10, chopped another, and missed a 3-10, but I made every single-pin spare I left, and there were pllllllenty.
I guess it was somewhat to-be-expected, since everything fell for me last week -- you know how bowling karma can go.
I was leaving 10-pins (converted them all!), 4-pins, 7-pins. Just couldn't get any strings together to boost the scores. I think I may have had one turkey the entire night, maybe a couple of doubles, but usually X 10-pin, or X 4-pin, then another strike, another single-pin, etc.
Anyway, 216-170-191 for 577. Not total disaster by any stretch, but it should have been better. At least I made my spares for the most part and kept it from getting ugly. Hopefully the carry will come back next week.
I spent a week in Jamaica, missing last Wednesday, and came back tonight in top form.
I think I should go on vacation more often :)
This was easily my best effort of the season, a smooth, mostly error-free night, that ended up being my 2nd-best career series when all was said and done.
I had only two opens the entire night, a 3-6-9-10 in the first game, and a chopped 6-10 in the final frame of the evening.
My carry was excellent, leaving only a single 10-pin on the night, and several strings of strikes.
I went 231-244-244 for a 719.
The part that drives me nuts is how easy it was. I know that sounds cocky. I just had a smooth delivery, everything came naturally, and it was easy to reproduce frame after frame. Why I can't do this on any kind of consistent basis is beyond me. I guess I just have to do a better job of remembering to keep it simple, and stick with what works, and not tinker too much if I get off track.
Definitely nice to put up big numbers considering my first three weeks were real stinkers. Now with back to back good weeks, I got the average up to 200, and can try to focus on hitting some of the goals I set for the year, and them not be laughable now.
First three weeks this season were forgettable, came into last night avg'ing 184.....way down.
Last
night, I started about 4 boards left of where I'd been standing, and
the adjustment seemed to pay off. The lanes have been flying since Week
1, and I'd been fighting them, instead of adjusting to them. The move
left allowed me to not throw the ball quite as hard, and I had more
consistent control.....didn't have to throw the living hell outta the
ball.
First game was my best....a clean 220. Was nice to get off
on the right foot. Started out a little shaky, but covered all my
spares then finished strong. Second game was pretty solid, again making
some hay late in the game to make up for a missed 4-7 and 10-pin --
211. Third game I opened up with a 4-9 and later missed another
10-pin, but I was able to finish with the last 4 for a 204.
635
series isn't anything to go nuts about, but considering the way I've
shot up until now, I'm satisfied to have a better look, a consistent
night, and get the average moving in the right direction.
Unfortunately,
it didn't help us any, as we ran into Team Buzzsaw last night. I'm not
sure what the finally tally was, but I think the 4-man team we played
shot close to 2700.....not terribly far off if the didn't. So, we got
spanked 7-0.
Going on vacation this weekend so I'll be missing next week, but hope to return and pick right back where I left off.
Good luck on the lanes to all, and see you in a couple of weeks.
Had a more consistent night Wednesday, threw the ball better, and had no 'disaster' games. Unfortunately no good games either. All three games were in the 180's and 190's and ended up with a 562.
I missed 3 or 4 makable spares, but the bigger problem was splits, as the lanes once again were really flying. Every time I got on a roll, I derailed myself with a split, or a missed makable spare.
I truly believe the shot is more difficult this year, though there's been plenty of speculation whether or not the league and lanes is following up on its decision to make the first six weeks of this league tougher. I do know plenty of guys in this league are substantially below their averages, so it's not just me. There are a few bowlers who are still successful, so I can't completely discount many of us being rusty early.
Either way, there's still 10 pins out there and 60 feet, so I need to find something.
I'm rolling the ball better than I was the first two weeks, and hoping I'm close to a breakthrough. My goal to average 210 this year is looking pretty comical when sitting at 184 after three weeks. It's early, and a 700 somewhere along the line would help a lot. Right now just want to bowl well and keep our team up in the standings.
Week 2 and things are not shaping up too well so far.
Practiced Tuesday and made a lot of good progress that didn't translate at all Wednesday night.
First two frames of Game 1 were 10-pins, and missed both, yet recovered for a 204. That was as good as it got all night.
The lanes were flying, I had been up since 320am, and I just didn't have the stamina to keep the ball out to the right with a smooth roll consistently. As a result, I went through the beak several times for 6-7-10 splits, and Game 2 was an awful 151.
Game 3 wasn't a whole lot better with more of the same: 177.
532 series is one of the worst I've had in the last few years, and after two weeks my average sits almost 20 pins below my final last year, at 182.
With all the work I put in for the PBA Experience, and practicing, this is not what I expected.
